Alana Finnie is a Style Writer with a whole lot of Sass!  Always up to date with the latest trends and owning over 100 lip glosses this sassy mama definitely knows what she is talking about when it comes to fashion and beauty.  I asked Alana a few questions about her Sassy Fashionista website, check out her answers below.

When did you launch Sassy Fashionista?

It actually launched in the Summer of 2007. It started more as a little side hobby and after about a year or so I started seeing some interest (which I was both shocked and super excited about!), so I began specifically setting aside time to write.

Sassy Fashionista is a blog about beauty and fashion, what are your beauty and fashion must haves?

No matter what the season is, I always have a big, bright scarf with me. I love scarves; they can instantly change any outfit, and they’re fairly seasonless as long as the material is thin enough. Beauty-wise, lip gloss is my life. This is a little embarrassing, but I have a huge basket filled to the brim with about 100 different glosses—it’s “hidden” under my bathroom sink (don’t tell my boyfriend!). I usually have three or so glosses my purse at any given time–and one in my pocket too! My fave is COBigelow’s Mentha Lip Tint in Magenta Mint. It adds just a touch of color, and smells like peppermint. Great to put on before giving someone a smooch!

What do you enjoy most about your website?

I love the fact that I can write literally anything I want. In addition to my blog, I do a lot of freelance writing. The feeling just isn’t the same. My blog allows me to get my word out (even if it’s in an overly “sassy” way) without needed to deal with any real consequences. In short, I can be myself.

What were you goals when creating Sassy Fashionista?

I always loved makeup and fashion and constantly read blogs and mags. But most of what I read felt like advertisements to me. I wanted to write my actual thoughts, good or bad, so that people would have a place to go for honest opinions.

Who are your fashion icons?

Audrey Hepburn. I love her. She is probably my favorite person who has ever lived. And Coco Chanel. She’s got this great quote that I try to live by, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” Both women are classic style icons and I strive to achieve their looks daily.

Your located in New Hampshire, what are some fashion trends that are springing up around you?

New Hampshire is not exactly the the trendiest place in the world. We’re probably about a year behind with most trends, and only about 1/8 of the people try them out. I live in Portsmouth, which is more of an artsy town, so people mainly wear cardigans, huge boots (or worse, clogs) and ripped jeans. I do spend half of my time in Boston though, and lately it’s been too cold for much trendiness other than huge puffer jackets! I just can’t wait for Spring so we can all bust out our cutesy floral dresses!
